Neurodiverse Affirming EMDR Training

In my EMDR workshops, I strive not only to teach but also to embody the principles of authenticity and inclusivity. From the moment the workshop begins, I share my personal journey with ADHD, unmasking and allowing my true self to shine - fidget toy in hand and quirky humour on display. This approach isn't just about teaching EMDR Therapy; it's about normalising neurodivergence and demonstrating that we can all thrive by being exactly who we are.

Creating a Neurodiverse Affirming Environment

Understanding that each participant learns differently, I've tailored my workshops to cater to a wide range of needs and preferences. Each training session is equipped with fidget toys and ample resources like highlighters, post-it notes, and sticky flags to enhance the learning experience. These small tools play a big part in keeping everyone engaged and comfortable.

Movement is also a key component of my training style. Participants are encouraged to move around as they need - whether that's sitting on the floor, standing, or taking a moment for a cuppa. This flexibility helps maintain energy and focus throughout our sessions. Additionally, we ensure that there is plenty of breakout space available to reduce noise during practicums and provide quiet areas for those who need a sensory break.

In my EMDR workshops we explore ways to modify EMDR Therapy to support neurodivergent clients in affirming ways, ensuring that the therapy is accessible and effective for everyone.

Feedback from participants is crucial and highly encouraged - it's what allows me to continually adapt and enhance the workshop experience. Over time, I’ve incorporated more visual diagrams in my manuals and varied the types of resources provided, such as podcasts, books, and videos, to cater to different learning styles.
